✴️ Lesson Part A: Color Coding the Battle Plan (Joshua 6:1–6)
Students examine God’s detailed instructions for the battle of Jericho through a close-reading color coding activity.
Students will:
Identify and highlight repeated words such as “seven” and “trumpet” (ram’s horn/shofar).
Discover the biblical significance of the number seven as representing completeness and order.
Trace the sequence of events in the battle plan for Jericho.
Identify God’s promises before the victory ever happens.
This section emphasizes that obedience sometimes feels silly and illogical, but God’s plans are always perfect.
✴️ Lesson Part B: Marching, Grammar & Shofar Creation (Joshua 6:6–20)
This section integrates grammar review with Bible study.
Students will:
Identify prepositions (location, direction, time) and adverbs (how, when, where, how much) directly from a Scripture passage describing how the battle of Jericho played out.
Create their own shofar (ram’s horn) craft using provided patterns (color and black-and-white options included).
March a predetermined route (inside or outside your building) the exact number of times outlined in the Bible. This experience helps students feel the rhythm and repetition of the Jericho march and come away with an understanding of how “silly” it may have felt to the Israelites but that trusting in God is always the right choice. (Ideas for how to build a simple Ark of the Covenant for students to carry and how to create a “falling” wall are included.)
✴️ Lesson Part C: Achan’s Sin & The Progression of Sin (Joshua 7)
The lesson makes a sudden shift from victory to defeat as students learn about Achan’s disobedience. You will create a simple tent in your classroom (included in the lesson) to represent Achan’s hiding place and place inside the three items that Achan stole (visuals provided). Students hear for themselves Achan’s confession and learn:
there is a predictable progression of sin: Seeing → Coveting → Taking → Hiding.
that one person’s sin can affect an entire nation. Personal sin always has consequences for our family and friends. This lesson demonstrates the seriousness of unconfessed sin and the corporate consequences of disobedience.

The Battle Strategy of Ai (Joshua 8)
Students analyze and map out the military strategy for Ai before reenacting it.
Activities include:
Studying and drawing the battle plan on a map.
Role-playing as Hiders, Decoys, and Residents.
Understanding ambush strategy
Importance of obedience to God. Students see how God gives specific instructions and how repentance leads to restored victory.
✴️ Lesson Part E:
Jesus—Our Greater Joshua (1 Thessalonians 4:16–17)
The unit concludes by connecting Joshua to Christ.
Students learn:
There is a greater Joshua—Jesus.
Just as Joshua led Israel into the Promised Land, Jesus leads believers into eternal life.
Victory over sin depends on Christ’s finished work, not our own faithfulness. Jesus IS our Victory!
